SHIFT

More than a research initiative, SeekHer Shift is the data that drives our movement — offering a cultural pulse on women’s mental health impacted by the systems that seek to limit them. Together, we’re mapping the evolution of healing from a personal act to a collective imperative. Our reports are where data meets story, and where lived experiences become blueprints for cultural change.

Across identities, one truth is undeniable: people want lives shaped by safety, connection, and shared responsibility — and the call to rebuild the systems that make that possible has never been more urgent.

In our fifth annual SeekHer Shift Report, insights from 3,226 respondents informed the debut of the Emotional Equity Index (EEI), a new framework revealing how emotional labor, safety, and access shape our capacity to belong in a divided world. This year’s findings revealed:

  • Emotional Strain Is Uneven: Most people feel today’s emotional weight, but not equally. Women are among the most affected — with gender‑diverse respondents experiencing even deeper strain — as only 11% of women and just 2% of gender‑diverse individuals report being unaffected, compared to 15% of men.

  • Repair Remains Unequally Shared: Women continue to shoulder more emotional labor, while men show lower activation of constructive anger expression (38.1% vs. 45%). These gaps reflect how norms still dictate who is expected to repair — and why shared responsibility is overdue.

  • Suppression Is Still the Default: Emotional suppression remains common across genders. 83% percent of women still hide or minimize their emotions to avoid burdening others, while men face norms discouraging vulnerability and gender‑diverse individuals navigate stigma and safety concerns.

  • Caregiving Expands the Load: Nearly three‑quarters of women (73.3%) identify as current or former caregivers, supporting multiple generations across their lives. These roles shape emotional bandwidth and highlight the need for systems that support those who hold families and communities together.

  • Connection Is Growing More Fragile: Nearly half of women (48%) report challenges with social connection as polarization erodes trust and belonging. Gender‑diverse respondents face the highest strain across nearly every domain, underscoring the urgency of rebuilding emotional and social infrastructures.
